MY 80th Birthday - coming soon

The Joy of Old Age. (No Kidding.) by oliver sachs.

i enjoy oliver sachs and read much if not all of his work on consciousness, little of which do i agree with.  i have read everything considered "important work" on consciousness.  And, I have a workable theory.

i am agnostic as to the immortality of my soul, simply because there is so much we do not know.  I did take a course a few years ago at dartmouth on the philosophy of God taught by a professor (whose name escapes me) who was an athiest.  His father and grandfather were ministers.  He lost his wife while severe mountain climbing.  He was facinated with Saint Anselm's proslogion.  He maintained in a soon to be published book that one should "Hope for God."

so I believe that poeople like Oliver Sachs who profess antheism as opposed to agnositicism are whack jobs.

In any event I enjoy looking to my 80th soon and to the next decade with a passion.  I profoundly believe in the Singularity as prophesized by Raymond Kurzweil  which should occur around by 90th birthday.

I like the thought expressed by francis crick (of genetic helix fame);  to die in harness.
